This explains what information Bazaaru (bazaaru.app) keeps about you, why, and what you can do about it. Bazaaru is run by Bazaaru, Malé, Maldives.
1. What we keep
- Account: your name, email, phone number, password (stored only as a scrambled code we can not read), your island if you choose it, and whether you sell privately or as a business.
- Google or Facebook sign-in: if you use it, Google or Facebook sends us your name, email and an account number. We never see your Google or Facebook password.
- Listings: titles, descriptions, prices, photos, the island, and how many times they were viewed and saved. When we can, we remove location data hidden inside photos.
- Messages you send and receive in Bazaaru, offers and blocks.
- Saved items: saved listings, saved searches, sellers you follow, and listings you viewed recently.
- Payments for promotions and plans: the slip you upload, the amount and the reference. We do not take card payments and keep no card numbers.
- Reports you send about listings.
- Technical data: the date of your last sign-in, a random device ID and the browser or phone type for each device you sign in with (so we can warn you about new sign-ins), and our web server's normal logs (IP address, browser, pages opened), used for security.
- Location: only when you choose to share it in a chat, or pin a meeting place on a listing. Bazaaru never tracks where you are.
2. What other people can see
- Your first name, seller ID, "Active since", private or business, and your listings.
- Your phone number only on listings where you tick "Show my phone number", and only after someone taps "Call".
- Your email and full name are never shown to other users.
3. Why we use it
- To run Bazaaru: your account, listings, search, messages and promotions.
- To confirm your email or phone and to let you sign in and reset your password.
- To send you emails or SMS you need: codes, new message alerts, payment confirmations.
- To keep Bazaaru safe: stop scams, spam and illegal listings, and handle reports. When you report a chat, our team reads that chat to check it.
- To understand how Bazaaru is used, in totals, so we can improve it.
We do not sell your information and we do not show you advertising based on it.
4. Who else gets it
- The person you deal with: what you write in messages, and your phone number if you show it.
- Service providers that help us run Bazaaru, only for that job: our hosting company, our email service, our SMS provider, and Google if you choose Google sign-in.
- Authorities when the law of the Maldives requires it, or to protect people from harm or fraud. This can include your messages, photos and documents sent in chats, and your account details, when the police, a court or another authority asks for them in writing.
Your chats are private. Our staff do not read them, except when a chat was reported or for a written legal request. Every time staff open or export a chat, it is logged with their name and the time.
5. How long we keep it
- Your account and listings: until you delete them or your account.
- Payment records: as long as needed for our accounts and tax records.
- Web server logs: a short time, for security.
- When you delete your account, your profile, listings, photos, messages, saved items and payment slips are deleted. Payment amounts we must keep for our accounts stay without your name.
- While an open legal request covers your account, or the account of someone you chatted with, we keep the data and you can not delete your account until the request is closed.
6. Cookies
Bazaaru uses a few small cookies. One keeps you signed in and protects forms (bz_sess). It is needed for the site to work. A second cookie keeps you signed in on that device until you sign out. After you sign in, your email is kept in a cookie for 1 year so the sign-in page can fill it in; tap "Not you?" to remove it. To show "Recommended for you", a cookie on your device remembers your last few searches and the categories you looked at (for 6 months, never shared). Your choice of light or dark mode is saved only on your device. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, so there is nothing to accept. More about cookies and storage.
7. Your choices
- See and change your details in Settings.
- Choose for each listing whether your phone number is shown.
- Delete listings in My Bazaaru, and delete your whole account in Settings → Delete account. How to delete your account and what is deleted.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct it, by writing to info@bazaaru.app.
8. The Bazaaru app
The Android app (and later the iPhone app) shows the same Bazaaru as the website, in a secure window of your phone's browser. Everything on this page applies to it. The app asks for these permissions only when you use the feature:
- Notifications: new messages, offers, price drops and saved search alerts. You can turn them off in the app or the phone settings.
- Camera and photos: to add photos to a listing, your profile or a chat. Only the photos you pick are uploaded.
- Location: only when you tap "Share location" in a chat.
Google Play and the App Store handle the download of the app under their own privacy policies. We do not use any tracking or advertising tools from other companies in the app.
9. Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections, scrambled passwords, private storage for payment slips, and limits against password guessing. No system is perfectly safe. If something goes wrong that puts you at risk, we will tell you.
10. Children
Bazaaru is for people aged 18 or older, or younger people with a parent's permission. We do not knowingly keep information about young children. Read our child safety standards.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. Important changes are shown on Bazaaru before they start. The date at the top shows the latest version.
